Overview

Introducing the concept of Lean Management to the Shop floor employees AS part of their training calendar 2014, the client had the mandate to train 2000 of their selected shopfloor employees in lean Management tools and conduct as online assessment.

The Challenge

The challenge is to introduce the global best standards and practices to all of its 2000 employees in its facilities and quickly train them to adopt to those practices, so the question was how L&D department would scale to offer these courses to employees in a short period of time.
Traditional form of training would be a logistic challenge to them and would consume huge amount of time and resource which is scarce, given their mandate. It should also be noted that most of workers are first time employees and were never employed in a factory. It is also very hard for them to get classroom faculty on a part-time basis consistently as faculty dates usually do not match with company learning plans and for large number of trainees, they are prohibitively expensive

Our Solutions

Based on approval for the L&D department we created a Storyboard and then the complete content for 3 learning hours. The eLearning content was independently scrutinized and approved by some leading Lean management consultants in India. Finally we set up the LMS (Learning Management system) on the cloud ( Using Amazon AWS) and enrolled all the employees by taking their email –ids.

A link was sent to their official ID with Username and password. We then uploaded the e-learning content as per the course structure ensuring no Video/ Learning object runs more than 10 minutes and interspersed with reading documents, Notes, and assessments.

All the employees had to take a pre-test before getting into the course content and then must take a series of assessment at the end of each module and final post assessment with a cut-off of 80% scoring to generate the course completion certification

Results

Since the launch of the course 200 people completed the course in a matter of 4 weeks and this is being extended to another 1000 employees with goal to reach all of them. It would have been very tough to conduct the training in traditional way.

The employees felt very motivated as they had the convenience to take the course as and when they are free and complete it without any hassles or interruptions to their work.

The management was quite happy that they got a Great ROI(Return on investment) with a reduction of 50% of their training costs at the same time could scale and complete the program in record time. All the administration of training and technical support was managed by Swift Solution
