ONGC e-Learning Initiative

Objective
To develop a comprehensive CD/Web Based Instructor Aided Learning Content for interactive training on Operating Procedures, Maintenance and Trouble Shooting of BOP Control Unit- Called Blow Out Preventer Control Unit

Expectation: The e-Learning content should substantially aid the instructor to

  • Visually/graphically explain the operation of BOP Unit with animations/Video, Demonstrate critical performance or maintenance areas.
  • Constructing multiple levels of navigation to simulate areas not seen by naked eye.

What is BOP/BOP Control Unit?
Blowout preventer (BOP) is a large valve that encases an oil well at surface. During drilling or well interventions, the valve may be closed if overpressure from an oil reservoir causes formation fluids such as oil and natural gas to back up within the wellbore and threaten the rig. By closing this valve (usually operated remotely via hydraulic actuators or called BOP Contol Units), the drilling crew can prevent explosive pressure release, thus regaining control of the reservoir pressure

Scope of the project:

  • To design, Develop a Comprehensive CD/Web based Instruction Manual with Full 3D simulation of the BOP Contol Unit
  • 3D animation of Individual Parts/ Animation to explain the Princple of Operations/ Explain the Various types of BOP and its operations.
  • Complete Maintenece /Trouble shooting of the BOP Control to be explained through animations and Video Clips.

Project Timeline:
To meet critical code-freeze deadlines and the launch date, this project was delivered in 10 weeks.

Project Approach:

Phase-1

  • Identified Learning Needs/Curicullam Objectives.
  • Co-ordinated with Subject Matter experts to collect the content/manual/ associated Graphics.
Deliverables: Storyboard and Prototype

Phase-2

  • Use Instructional Writing to develop On-line Course
  • Apply appropriate Graphics (audio, Video, Animation, layouts) as per course content and build navigation and Interactivity
  • Completed the Video shoot of entire BOP Control Unit/ Conceptualized and Created animations.
Deliverables: Beta or Draft Version of the e-Learning Content.

Phase-3

  • Review and Validate Content with the feedback given by users/instructors
  • Test The content in the actual Environment

Project Outcome:

  • The application substantially reduced the learning time required by engineers by 50%.(ex. Training Program for BOP Unit reduced from 2 weeks to 1 week)
  • The self-explanatory learning application increased the levels of understanding of BOP Control Unit among drill engineers.

The Objective is to create a web and stand alone or (DVD or Thumb Drive) based elearning content for Packaging machinery product line

The client is a leading packaging machinery manufacturer in the world. A fortune 500 company. The company sells machinery through its sales staff and in remote location through its distribution network.

The Challenge: Often the dealer service personnel and customer have difficulty in identifying the problematic issues during a machine breakdown and the associated machine diagrams and part numbers to give an effective resolution to the problem. It�s critical to identify and resolve any machine breakdowns as each break down hour of the packaging machinery affects the manufacturing cycle and there by the production targets and profitability.

Our Solution: Swift Solution created ready reference learning content to Service personnel to use , identify the problem, Machine diagram, part number, part name and access the Trouble shoot videos. The learning content can be accessed by logging into the learning portal or can be installed through Thumb drive or DVD on any Windows laptop/Desktop.

The service personal now have complete access to all machine parts and diagrams in 3D, which can be drilled down to individual parts to get an exploded view. The whole machine can be dismantled and re-instated virtually in a 3d environment. The service personnel have complete view of mechanical and electrical drawing in 3D with its parts which was not possible to see through naked eye. Trouble shoot videos are also available to them to quickly detect and resolve common problem associated with the machinery.

Project Outcome: The project tremendously improved the efficiency of the service personnel capacity to resolve machine issues and reduced the machine breakdown time. The Project became so successful that while the machine was delivered to the client a DVD of learning content was given as part of the tool kit at a cost there by giving a effective return on investment.

To develop a complete elearning Software simulation portal to help users navigate and learn each and every feature by themselves.

Expectation: The client wanted a learning aid to be developed so that users of the product/ application learn every part of the application from the learning resource. This is supposed to predominantly replace manual classroom training to the minimum.

The Challenge: The client is a leading Big data analytics application software player. His product adoption among his target segment increased rapidly and providing training to his product end-users a logistic nightmare. He wanted us to develop a comprehensive online learning portal for his users which will have Expert Short Videos from his subject matter experts and followed by software simulated modules with voice over to explain each and every feature ,which eventually will replace his class room training session. Resource allocation and cost overruns were his major challenges.

Our Solution: Swift Solution created a portal for the client where the users after buying the product or service are given access to the portal which has complete end to end coverage of all the software application module simulations interspersed with short videos from SMEs explaining important topics, concepts and hand holding sessions. It has inbuilt self-assessment modules to test their acquired skills.

Project Outcome: The learning portal became an instant hit with the customers who used the portal as learning and reference point for their issues which in turn helped them to learn the product quickly and easily. Over a period of time this learning portal has metamorphosed into a certification program which customers could get by paying a fee after they learn the nuances of the product. The CEO of eambalam Mr. TV.Ramprasadh had the vision of making available quality teachers in Bharathanatyam and Karnatic vocal to students worldwide and especially for those who find it hard to get a guru to further their passion in Music and dance. Eambalam is the culmination of his vision to create artists everywhere through technology based online learning.

Expectation: The client wanted us to implement his concept of teaching music right from the drawing boards to the technology dashboard we have created for him. A total turnkey elearning project from concept to completion including planning, execution, implementation and support for the web based online music and dance portal.

The Challenge: To create a elearning platform which with minimum effort enable the students to adopt the new way of teaching and with out diluting the learning process and addressing what we call Guru-sishya parampara, the age old oral tradition of transfer of knowledge from guru to sishya which embodies the living and learning relationship between master and pupil

Our Solution: Swift Solution created a web based elearning portal customized and integrated with Moodle LMS (learning management system) and with API of WebEx and Skype used to schedule one to one online sessions for student teacher interaction. Around 400 Hrs of elearning content developed with more than 250 Hrs of Videos of music and dance sessions incorporated in the learning portal
